Front cover of Specialist Level Palliative Care Information for Commissioners

This guidance provides a clear description of what should be provided in terms of specialist level palliative care for people with progressive, life-limiting illness who have complex needs, and/or those whose usual care teams require the expert advice, guidance and support of those with specialist knowledge and skills in palliative care.

This document applies mainly to adults, but includes teenagers and young adults, and young people undergoing transition into adult services.

It identifies that specialist level palliative care includes providing care and support to those important to the person receiving care, including facilitating bereavement care
